Striving to Live a Life of Adventure, Excellence, and Faith.

Urban Legend...........

Hello Sweet Blog Friends!!  I hope your week is going well.  I have been a little off the radar because of work travel this week; however, I rolled back into Knoxville Thursday afternoon, and I was so happy to be home.  Since the trip was work related, it seemed that I went from 6 a.m. until midnight every day working.  When I wasn't in meetings, I was talking about work, or actually trying to catch up on emails and projects.  There was no "personal" time, and this gal is tired!!

The sweet ladies I traveled with were tourism PR Professionals from across Tennessee.  We had a great time working together and pitching Tennessee and each of our cities/attractions.  However, the one topic that came up over and over, was the fact that our lives seemed so out-of-balance.  We were tied to our Iphones, constantly answering emails and voicemails, monitoring news coverage, all while carrying on conversations with each other, pitching media, texting with our families, and chatting with co-workers. It was nonstop.

I began to wonder, if the idea of balance is like the Fountain of Youth.  Its a great concept, yet not obtainable.  And, we spend our entire lives trying to achieve this balance, yet its really a figment of our imagination.

In an ideal world, balance in my life would look something like this........

5:00 a.m.  Rise and Shine & Head to the Gym
5:15 a.m.  Gym Time & Ready Overnight News Coverage
6:30 a.m.  Arrive Home & Breakfast & Bible Devotion
7:00 a.m.  Shower and Get Ready
8:00 a.m.  Grab Lunch (made the night bf) & Coffee head to Work
8:20 a.m.  Work - Review To-Do List (Prepared the day bf), catch up on emails, and begin working on the projects most taxing first, and so-on!
11:30 a.m.  LUNCH (Healthy and Balanced with Water)
12:15 p.m.  Back to Work, Meetings, etc.
5:00 p.m.  Wind Down, Work on Tomorrow's To-Do List
6:00 p.m.  Arrive Home
6:15 p.m.  Begin Preparing Dinner & Work on Blog
7:00 p.m.  Eat Dinner & Enjoy Time with Hubby
8:00 p.m.  Relax, Read a Book, Bible Study, etc.
9:00 p.m.  Begin Preparing for the next day (Prepare Coffee, Make Lunch, Pick Up Home, Lay out clothes, Wash Face, etc.)
9:30 p.m.  Crawl in bed, read a book, chill.
10:00 p.m. NIGHT!!

Ahhh...........to actually have this much balance.  How nice would that be.  Yet, my days, along with everyone else's day are filled with countless emails, phone calls, meetings, deadlines, etc.  The demands don't slow down.  So what do we do get balance?

That's something that I honestly think we can strive for, but not sure if we will ever obtain.  We can do the best we can, and honestly everything else will fall into place.

Have a great weekend!!

I totally agree and have been struggling with this as well. Like yourself I am very career and work driven.
I had a brief time in my life where I thought it was balanced. This is when I was running my business. I know for most business owners would say I am crazy, because all the demands ownership brings. But I set my schedule and only took on what I could handle. I never set an alarm, so I woke up when my body was rested. Some days that was 5:30am others it was 10am. I then made coffee and spent how much time I needed with God. Again sometimes it was a half hour of reading, other times it was 2 hours of prayer. Then I figured out what I needed to do that day. It was wonderful.

And now I am half way around the world and nothing is normal. I dont think I could even write down an ideal day. Where I am phyically at work from 6:30-5 six days a week. Grab a quick dinner out, because I have no desire to cook. Then head home to catch up on emails, skype meeting, etc. When your boss and coworkers on a completely different time zone, I have to stay up late to touch base with them. Or when I wake up the next morning I am 10 miles behind when the day just began.
Its like I have to schedule time with God, and thats not the way is should be. And I abslutly have to schedule time to talk and catch up with family and friends. Time for myself is even less. I am realizing that is a need and not a want.
As I get older the desire for a relationship grows, but until I take time for myself, that will not happen.

I dont know have to fix it, and more so I dont know if it can be. I do know that God will always find a way to call us back to him when we get overly busy and dont make enough time for him. Which I am oh so thankful for!!
