Last week, I found myself in a conversation about the summer's hottest topics - "Magic Mike" and "50 Shades of Grey." Now, I have to be honest and say I did receive "50 Shades" as a summer beach gift and made it through a read a chapter or so before I was sickened by the content and put down and haven't looked at it since. I am not saying this to be judgmental, its just the way it made me feel.
OKay.......back to the conversation. This conversation was with Christian women and men, and I am so glad that several spoke TRUTH into the movie and book. It brought LIGHT onto the subject, and I realized quickly that this type of media and entertainment truly cheapens us as a nation and can be harmful if we engage.
I am writing this post as a Christian married woman, who loves God with all my heart, yet I fail every day at being "perfect." However, the Lord's mercy and goodness is always there to redeem me and to make me whole again.
I can't find the words to say what this movie and book represent for our culture; however, I came across two fantastic blog articles that I wanted to share:
Magic Mike Who?? http://mrsgoresdiary.com/2012/07/08/magic-mike-who/
50 Shades of Mike: http://melissajenna.com/2012/06/30/50-shades-of-magic-mike-in-which-i-am-very-uncool/
If you have a moment today or this week take a moment and read. I hope your eyes are opened like mine, and be reminded that we should gaurd ourselves as to what we watch and see.
