Striving to Live a Life of Adventure, Excellence, and Faith.

This Cannot Be Good!

I started this blog a few years ago, to keep in touch with family and friends that I did not get to see often enough. And, many of those family and friends are from my hometown and still readers of my blog. So you will understand the humor in the story I am about to tell:

Today, I had a lazy Sunday. Sleeping in, cleaning the house, organizing work and clothes for the week, etc. Around 4 p.m. I decided to head out to get groceries, and on my way I decided to stop by the car wash because my car was so dusty and had not been cleaned in a few weeks. I went through the car wash, parked to vaccum my car, and when I got ready to leave.....NOTHING. My car would not start.

I started thinking, "THIS CANNOT BE GOOD!" I sat there trying to remember if I needed gas, and I new the little "ding" had not gone off that makes me remember to get gas, or at least I did not remember hearing the "ding". Had I ignored it while listening to the XM or talking on the phone? Oh Goodness.

I quickly called Matt, who was in a very important meeting, and was going to try to leave., but he did not think he could. I decided to call the only other person in Knoxville that I knew could help me, my dear friend and cousin (somewhere down the line) Dustin. He quickly said he would come pick me up, and I was so greatful. While waiting I decided to run (literally) across the 4-lane and get gas. I bought a gas can thingy, the cashier had to put it together for me, bc it was little too complicated. And, then I had to get a gallon of gas.

Now that was an experience. I had gas EVERYWHERE. That gas spout thingy just exploded and sprayed gas everywhere. One me, on the ground, a little in the can, and worst of all all over my Coach Purse. (Yes, the $500 bag that I waited for several years to get.) I decided not to stress about the purse, and ran BACK across the 4-lane. By the time I arrived back, the car wash attendant was waiting for me, and asked if he could help. I asked him to pour the gas in my car, which he made a comment that there was hardly in gas the can, but poured anyway. I tried starting again and nothing.

I thanked the Car Wash dude, and said help was on the way. He said Goodnight, and Closed the Car Wash. Soon Dustin arrived, and within seconds of his arrival, he looked me asked if the car was having a gas leak? I started laughing and had to explain my episode at the Gas Station. We went back to the gas station and he pumped an actual gallon, and we tried again. Yet nothing.

Hmm......just when we were about to call the Tow Truck, I remembered I had an "Emergency Car Care Kit" in my car, and that it probably had something we could use to help the situation. After looking through the blanket, poncho, and sparklers, we found jumper cables.

We opened the package of jumper cables, read the directions, and decided it was worth a try. After many attempts of getting Dustin's car positioned just so (for the cords to reach), we got everything connected. And, BAM.....My Car started.

Woohoo. It was a miracle I tell you. For Dustin and I to be able to start my car, who would have thought. We are not the most Car-Techy as most. Actually, we both agree we know how to drive our cars and put gas in them (when the ding thingy goes off); everything else is left up to the mechanic or our parents. Ha!

After a quick trip to Advanced Auto Parts and a small test, we discovered it was my battery. And since the place did not have the correct battery, I decided to come home, park my car, and let my husband handle the rest.

By the time I got home I was icky from running around and the smell of gas. I hand washed my purse in Bath and Body White Citrus, and sprayed the inside with Crabtree and Evelyn Lavendar Room spray. But, the gas smell is still really strong. Not sure what I am going to do with that one.

So it looks like I may be looking for a new purse and wallet soon.

I made it home safely, and so grateful and thankful to my good friend Dustin. Sometimes only life-long/childhood friends are the ones you can call when your in a pickle. I've known Dustin since he was born, and we have experienced a lot of life together. Tonight's memories will be just one of the hundreds we will experience. Ha!!

Have a great week.
